India’s first cable-stayed bridge Anji Khad will be ready in May this year

The first cable-stayed rail bridge in India will be completed in May of this year, despite numerous deadline extensions, including those in 2017 and 2022.

The Anji Khad bridge’s delayed construction, which has been in the works for twenty years and is a critical connector for a train’s transit between Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), is a significant hole in the Indian Railways’ ambitious goal to seamlessly connect Kashmir to the rest of India.

Despite all obstacles, a senior Railway official stated that “all 96 cables have been fully installed as of April 26 in a record time period of eleven months between June 2022 and April 2023.”

Pressing Need To Check Tax Evasion, Illicit Fund Flows By Developing Nations: OECD Report

According to the Tax Transparency report by OECD, there is a critical need to tackle tax evasion and illicit financial flows in the current geopolitical and debt crisis, particularly in Asian nations. The report stated that Asian nations lost an estimated 25 billion euros in revenue in 2016 due to tax evasion and IFFs.

The report also cited a study that showed that 4% of Asia’s financial wealth, which amounts to 1.2 trillion euros, was held offshore, resulting in a potential annual revenue loss of 25 billion euros for the region in 2016.

The Tax Transparency in Asia 2023: Asia Initiative Progress Report highlighted that the fight against tax evasion and IFFs has become more urgent following the COVID-19 pandemic, as the geopolitical crisis has led to slower economic growth and increased government expenditure on public health, social and economic support, and other areas.
