Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, Shri Anurag Thakur, has made a significant announcement regarding the provision of free Doordarshan DTH connections in far-flung areas situated in villages along the Indo-China border. During his visit to Karzok Village in Ladakh, approximately 211 kilometers away from Leh, the minister emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring better all-round connectivity, including improved mobile connectivity, for the residents of these remote villages.
Free Doordarshan DTH Connections in Border Areas
To reach out to people living in far-flung and border areas, the government has proposed the distribution of 1.5 lakh free FreeDish connections in villages located in border areas. This initiative aims to leverage the platform of DD “FreeDish” to provide access to information and entertainment for communities in these regions.
Development of Border Villages
Highlighting the government’s dedication to the development of border villages, Shri Thakur assured the local villagers that their demands for enhanced digital and road connectivity, improved tourism infrastructure, sports infrastructure, and the Jal Jeewan Mission would be prioritized and implemented.
Minister’s Comprehensive Tour and Interactions
As part of the government’s vibrant village program, Minister Shri Anurag Thakur embarked on a comprehensive three-day tour to Leh-Ladakh, during which he stayed in Karzok village. He held meetings with officials from the Union Territory (UT) and district administration to review various Central and State Government schemes. Additionally, the minister interacted with ITBP jawans at the Karzok platoon post, located about 15,000 feet above sea level on the Indo-China border.
Assessing Projects and Understanding Challenges
The primary objective of the minister’s visit was to assess the reach of government projects and schemes and gain a first-hand understanding of the challenges faced by residents in remote border villages along the Indo-China border. Shri Thakur closely interacted with local villagers and administrative officials to address their concerns and aspirations.
Inauguration of PMGSY Road and Discussion of Various Issues
During his interactions with locals, the minister inaugurated the PMGSY road connecting the highway of Dadh Kharnak at Kharnak village. He also discussed a range of issues, including solar power, drinking water, housing, cycling tracks, artificial lakes, tourism subsidies, border security, road development, mobile towers, wildlife concerns, inclusion in the Vibrant Village Program, and settlement of nomads.
Development Achievements in Ladakh
Shri Thakur highlighted the significant developments that have taken place in Ladakh since the formation of the Union Territory. These include direct funding, 24-hour electricity, installation of solar plants, an ultra-mega solar plant worth Rs 21,000 crore, increased livelihood opportunities, and the sanctioning of 375 mobile towers in Leh.
Future Initiatives for Changthang Region
The minister unveiled plans for future initiatives aimed at further enhancing the development of the Changthang region and its surrounding villages. These initiatives include upgrading infrastructure to improve connectivity and promoting eco-tourism to leverage the natural beauty of the region. Shri Thakur assured the villagers of the government’s full support and allocation of necessary resources to effectively implement these plans.
Visit to Puga Residential School and Interaction with Jawans
During his visit to Puga Residential School, Shri Thakur interacted with the students and participated in a volleyball exhibition match with high spirits. The District Youth Services and Sports Department distributed sports equipment and kits to the school in Karzok. The minister also played table tennis with the assistance of cell phone/mobile light.
Interactions at Chumur and Addressing Border Security
During his visit to Chumur, Shri Thakur interacted with Jawans and spoke to the villagers about issues primarily related to road connectivity, telecom services, the Jal Jeewan Mission, and more. The executive engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD) informed the minister about a proposed 7 km stretch for the village, with the Detailed Project Report (DPR) already prepared.
Reforms for Border Forces
While interacting with the jawans of the 37th ITBP Post, Shri Thakur highlighted the various reforms undertaken by the government to provide improved facilities for the forces stationed at the border. These reforms include enhanced combat wear, armament, the Make in India initiative, and pensions.
Empowering Rural Communities and Fostering Sustainable Development
The visit to vibrant village Changthang symbolizes a significant step towards empowering rural communities, improving their living standards, and fostering sustainable development in the region. Through dedicated efforts and a collaborative approach, the government aims to create vibrant and self-reliant villages that contribute to the progress and prosperity of the nation.
