India Gifts Missile Corvette INS Kirpan to Vietnam
During a meeting between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Vietnamese Defence Minister General Phan Van Gang in New Delhi, it was announced that India will be gifting the indigenous missile corvette INS Kirpan to Vietnam. The two countries will also work together in areas of defense industry cooperation, maritime security, and multinational cooperation.
About the Meeting between the Defence Ministers
- During the meeting, progress was reviewed in various defense cooperation initiatives between the two countries. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the ongoing engagements.
- The ministers discussed ways to improve collaboration in existing areas, particularly in defense industry cooperation, maritime security, and multinational cooperation.
- The defense relationship between the two nations is a crucial aspect of their partnership. The engagements cover a wide range of activities, including communication between the services, military exchanges, high-level visits, capacity building, and training programs, UN Peacekeeping cooperation, ship visits, and bilateral exercises.
- As part of his visit, the Defense Minister of Vietnam also went to the DRDO headquarters to discuss enhancing defense industrial capabilities through research and joint production.
- General Phan Van Gang also paid tribute to the fallen heroes by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial.
The visiting dignitary arrived in India on June 18 for a two-day visit. Vietnam plays an important role in India’s Act East Policy and the Indo-Pacific region.
