INS Sunayna recently visited Seychelles from July 10 to 12, 2023, to take part in Operation Southern Readiness 2023. This operation was organized by the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF). The purpose of the visit was to strengthen multilateral relations and enhance cooperation through the CMF exercise. The CMF exercise is a multinational initiative that focuses on improving maritime security, combating piracy, and ensuring safety and freedom of navigation in the region. The participation of INS Sunayna in this exercise contributes to the shared goal of maintaining maritime safety and security in the area.

During the visit, personnel from various participating navies, including the USA, Italy, UK, Seychelles Defence Forces, Marine Police, and member nations of EUNAVFOR, engaged in a wide range of professional interactions. These interactions involved subject matter expert exchanges, visits, and shared knowledge.
INS Sunayna conducted lectures and practical demonstrations on diverse topics such as Navigation, VBSS (Basic and Advanced training), Maritime Domain Awareness, and mass casualty evacuation drills. The training exercises were witnessed by a delegation from CMF in Bahrain, led by Commander CTF56, Cmde Oliver.
As part of fostering camaraderie and well-being, a combined yoga session was organized onboard, with personnel from Seychelles Defence Forces, CMF, and the ship’s crew participating in the session. This activity aimed to promote physical and mental well-being among the participants.
About INS Sunayna
INS Sunayna is the second Saryu-class patrol vessel of the Indian Navy. It was launched on 14 November 2009 by Mrs. Usha Ranjan, wife of the then Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Suresh Mehta. The ship was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 27 January 2011.
- INS Sunayna is a 105-meter-long, 14-meter-wide, and 6-meter-deep vessel. It has a displacement of 1,200 tons and a maximum speed of 25 knots.
- The ship is armed with two 30-mm guns, two 12.7-mm machine guns, and four rocket launchers.
- INS Sunayna is primarily used for coastal patrol and surveillance.
- It is also equipped to carry out search and rescue operations, disaster relief, and anti-piracy operations.
