On Tuesday, Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Minister for Sports Development and Youth Welfare in Tamil Nadu, honored N Muthamizh Selvi, who made history as the first woman from Tamil Nadu to successfully conquer Mount Everest.
Hailing from Johilpatti, Virudhunagar, the 34-year-old adventurer achieved this remarkable feat on May 23, following an arduous journey of 56 days. Her determination and perseverance have set an inspiring example for aspiring mountaineers and women in Tamil Nadu.
Muthamizh Selvi, First Tamil Nadu Woman to Climb Mount Everest
N Muthamizh Selvi received a warm reception upon her arrival at Chennai airport. The Tamil Nadu Minister for Sports Development and Youth Welfare, Udhayanidhi Stalin, personally greeted her and expressed his admiration for her achievement. Selvi, who became the first woman from Tamil Nadu to conquer Mount Everest, spoke to reporters and shared her experiences.

- The government of Tamil Nadu recognized her remarkable achievement by providing financial assistance of ₹15 lakh. Additionally, various non-governmental organizations extended their support by contributing ₹10 lakh towards her journey.
Rajasekhar Pachai, another native of Tamil Nadu who successfully climbed Mount Everest on May 19, met with Udhayanidhi Stalin as well. Pachai, known for his expertise in surfing, received appreciation for his remarkable accomplishment.
