Union Minister Shri Parshottam Rupala Launched “Report Fish Disease” App

The Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Shri Parshottam Rupala, along with other dignitaries, launched a new android-based mobile app called “Report Fish Disease.” The launch event was attended by Dr. L. Murugan, Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Shri J.N. Swain, Secretary of the Department of Fisheries, MoFAH&D, Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi, Officer on Special Duty, MoFAH&D, and Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary of DARE & DG, ICAR, New Delhi.

More About the ‘Report Fish Disease’ App

Aligned with the vision of “Digital India,” the ‘Report Fish Disease’ app has been developed by ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR), Lucknow.

• It was officially launched on June 28th as part of the National Surveillance Programme for Aquatic Animal Diseases.
• The app aims to contribute to the effective monitoring and control of fish diseases by enabling users to report and identify diseases in aquatic animals.
• This initiative is an important step towards leveraging technology for the betterment of the fisheries, animal husbandry, and dairying sectors in India.

Background

• The Department of Fisheries has allocated a budget of ₹33.78 crore for a three-year period to implement the second phase of the National Surveillance Programme for Aquatic Animal Diseases (NSPAAD) under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) scheme.
• The launch of the “Report Fish Disease” app has played a crucial role in meeting national and international reporting obligations in a transparent manner.
• The app serves as a central platform, seamlessly connecting fish farmers, field-level officers, and fish health experts.
• It enables effective communication and collaboration among these stakeholders, ensuring that disease problems faced by farmers are promptly reported and addressed.
