Transforming Cooperative Sector – Formation of 1100 New FPOs (Farmer Producer Organizations)
To fulfill Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sahkar se Samriddhi,” 1100 new Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) will be established in the cooperative sector. This decision is a result of the collaborative efforts of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has allocated these FPOs to the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) under the “Formation and Promotion of 10,000 FPOs” scheme.
Each FPO will receive financial assistance of Rs. 33 lakhs, while Cluster Based Business Organizations (CBBO) will receive Rs. 25 lakhs per FPO. Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) will be integrated into the FPO scheme, allowing them to expand their economic activities beyond credit and distribution to include supply, processing, and high-income generating activities.
