Dr. K. Govindaraj, a Congress MLC, has been elected as the President of FIBA Asia, the International Basketball Federation in Asia. This historic nomination marks the first time an Indian has been chosen to lead FIBA Asia, which represents 44 countries. Dr. Govindaraj’s appointment was unanimously ratified at the FIBA Asia Congress, solidifying his position as the first Indian to hold this prestigious role in the international basketball community in Asia.

Dr. K. Govindaraj has assumed the role of President of FIBA Asia, succeeding Qatar’s Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani, who served as the head of FIBA Asia for four consecutive five-year terms since 2002.
