According to Higher Education Minister R. Bindu, the Kerala State Higher Education Council (KSHEC) will yearly apply the Kerala Institutional Ranking Framework (KIRF) to assess the quality of higher education institutions in Kerala. The KIRF, modelled after the National Institutional rating Framework (NIRF), will be India’s first rating framework that focuses entirely on higher education institutions within a state.
Kerala Institutional Ranking Framework – Highlights
The Kerala State Higher Education Council has created the Kerala Institutional Ranking Framework to give a more democratic and secular way to grading and ranking Kerala’s higher education institutions. This effort intends to publish annual rankings while keeping the National Institutional Ranking Framework’s essential traits and components.
The Kerala Institutional Ranking Framework would evaluate universities and colleges based on a variety of criteria, including overall, universities, colleges, engineering, management, architecture, medical, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, law, and teacher education.
Furthermore, the framework would assess the quality of higher education institutions using state-specific criteria and indicators. R. Bindu, Kerala’s Higher Education Minister, stated that the framework will prioritise teaching, learning, and resources, knowledge dissemination and research excellence, graduation outcomes, and outreach and inclusivity.
According to the Higher Education Minister, the KIRF ranking system will help state higher education institutions enhance their rankings in both national and global contexts. Furthermore, the ranking system will help students looking for creative and current courses make educated judgements when choosing a college and programme. A team lead by Gangan Prathapan, a former director of both CUSAT and the CSIR, created the framework.
