One Panchayat One Playground Project
Pinarayi Vijayan, the chief minister of Kerala, has started a project called “One Panchayat, One Playground” with the goal of reviving the state’s sporting tradition by constructing top-notch playgrounds in each panchayat. The initiative was officially launched in Kallikkad, where the chief minister stressed the need of fostering a vibrant sports culture to build a strong and pleased society.
In the first phase of the project, which is expected to take three years, playgrounds are expected to be built in 113 panchayats at a cost of around Rs. one crore apiece. Half of the cost will be covered by the Sports Department, with the remaining money being gathered via a variety of channels, including MLA and local body funding, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and public-private partnerships.
Main Objective Behind ‘One Panchayat, One Playground’
The Chief Minister highlighted that the ‘One Panchayat, One Playground’ project’s primary goal is to provide a central location for community gatherings and social interactions, addressing the absence of adequate playgrounds in nearly 450 local bodies throughout the state.
