Ministry of Agriculture Launches BHARAT Campaign to Boost Agri Infra Fund

The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, led by Manoj Ahuja, Agriculture Secretary, has introduced BHARAT (Banks Heralding Accelerated Rural & Agriculture Transformation), an initiative under the Agri Infra Fund. The month-long campaign, running from July 15th to August 15th, 2023, aims to raise 7200 crore. Over 100 banking officials, including MDs/Chairman, EDs, and representatives from various banks, actively participated in the launch event held via video conferencing.

Under the Agri-Infra Fund scheme, more than 31,850 agricultural infrastructure projects have been completed across the country, with a loan disbursement of 24,750 crore, contributing significantly to enhancing agricultural infrastructure. Bank executives shared valuable suggestions during the launch event to strengthen the scheme further. The Ministry highlighted the importance of ground-level assessments to evaluate project impacts.

The Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, approved by the Union Cabinet in 2020, provides medium to long-term debt financing for viable projects related to post-harvest management infrastructure and community farm assets. It offers interest subvention and financial assistance for a duration of ten years, benefiting borrowers with reduced interest rates, credit guarantee coverage, and repayment flexibility.

The BHARAT campaign and the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund aim to drive rural and agricultural transformation in India, promoting improved infrastructure, supporting Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs), and providing relief to borrowers through flexible repayment options.
