Amazon India has opened its first floating store on Dal Lake in Srinagar, Kashmir. This unique initiative is in line with Amazon’s goal of offering customers reliable and convenient delivery services while also empowering small businesses with new earning opportunities.
The floating store is part of Amazon India’s ‘I Have Space’ delivery program, which was initiated in 2015. Through this program, local shops and partners are enlisted to help deliver packages to customers residing in remote areas, making it easier for people in such regions to access Amazon’s products and services.
About the ‘I Have Space’ Program
Amazon India’s ‘I Have Space’ last-mile delivery program collaborates with local stores and business owners, enabling them to efficiently deliver products within a 2 to 4 kilometers radius of their stores. This partnership provides these local partners with an opportunity to earn additional income. The program was launched in 2015 and has since established a vast network of over 28,000 neighborhood and Kirana partners in nearly 420 towns and cities across India.
‘I Have Space’ Program: Empowering Local Store Partners
On average, Amazon’s store partners handle around 20 to 30 packages daily and receive a fixed fee for each delivery they make. Many of these stores also serve as convenient pick-up points, accepting deliveries on behalf of customers. Leveraging their knowledge of the local area and their positive reputation within the community, these enterprising locals efficiently manage the entire delivery process, making a significant and positive impact in their neighborhoods.
Serving Customers around Dal Lake
The ‘I Have Space’ store at Dal Lake in Srinagar serves as a crucial solution for customers living and running businesses around Dal Lake and Nigeen Lake. These areas are popular destinations for both tourists and locals, and the store’s presence enables reliable and convenient deliveries, catering to the needs of the community in this bustling location.
