In a major achievement during the Azadi ka Amrit Kaal, the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) has successfully provided safe and clean drinking water to over 12 Crore rural households in India through tap connections. When the JJM was launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 15th August 2019, only 3.23 Crore (16.64%) households in rural areas had access to piped water connections.
