In a successful collaboration with the Automotive Sector Development Council (ASDC), GIZ-IGVET, and the Maharashtra State Skill Development Mission (MSSDS), the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has certified 98 trainers who participated in the cluster-based Training of Trainers (ToT) project. This initiative, developed as part of the National component of Skill Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion (SANKALP), aimed to enhance the skills of trainers in various trades such as Advanced Welding, CNC operations, Robotics, Quality Control, and Advanced Automotive Technology.

Implementation Led by the Ministry:

Taking charge of the cluster-based Training of Trainers project, the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) collaborated with key stakeholders, including the Automotive Sector Development Council (ASDC), GIZ-IGVET, and the Maharashtra State Skill Development Mission (MSSDS). The project’s objective was to bridge the skills gap by involving industry members in curriculum development and upgrading trainers’ technical and pedagogical skills to meet the requirements of industry 4.0.

Dual Certification Ensures Competency:

Trainers who participated in the ToT program received dual certification after undergoing assessments conducted by the Automotive Sector Development Council and IGCC (German certification agency). This dual certification validates their ability to deliver high-quality training in their respective trades effectively.

Public-Private Partnership Strengthens Technical and Vocational Education:

The ToT initiative fostered a strong public-private partnership in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) domain. Successful implementation of the ToT program was made possible through collaborations with organizations such as Sukhakarta General Engineering Cluster Pvt. Ltd. (SGECPL) in Pune. This approach provided trainers with comprehensive training, including one-month classroom instruction and one-month on-the-job training, equipping them with the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

Benefits: Enhancing Skills and Aligning with Industry 4.0:

The ToT program aimed to enhance trainers’ skills in the automotive sector, preparing them to meet the industry’s evolving demands. By upgrading their technical and pedagogical skills, the program contributed to the development of a highly competent workforce. The involvement of industry members in curriculum development ensured that the training programs aligned with industry 4.0 requirements, effectively bridging the skills gap and facilitating trainees’ smooth transition into the automotive sector.

Vision for a Competent Workforce:

The certification ceremony for the cluster-based Training of Trainers project highlighted the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship’s commitment to creating a pool of highly skilled trainers. By prioritizing Training of Trainers (ToT) programs, the government aims to cultivate a competent and robust workforce across various sectors, significantly multiplying the impact of skill development initiatives.
