A special celebration was conducted at the renowned Sharjah cricket stadium to commemorate Sachin Tendulkar’s 50th birthday and the 25th anniversary of his amazing back-to-back centuries against Australia in 1998, which became known as the “Desert Storm.”
The West Stand of the stadium has been renamed the “Sachin Tendulkar Stand” in honour of the renowned cricketer. The event took place on Monday in front of a full stadium.
Sachin’s Amazing Performance At Sharjah Cricket Stadium
The ‘Desert Storm’ is a term used to describe Sachin Tendulkar’s outstanding performance in the Coca-Cola Cup final game between India, Australia, and New Zealand on April 22 and 24, 1998. In these two games, he achieved remarkable scores of 143 and 134 which will go down in history.
Although Tendulkar has amassed a staggering 49 hundred in One Day Internationals (ODIs) at 34 different stadiums, his remarkable performance at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in April 1998, where he scored the twin centuries, is still remembered and appreciated by his admirers all over the world.
About Sharjah Cricket Stadium
The Sharjah Cricket Venue is a well-known cricket venue in the emirate of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It was constructed in 1982, making it one of the older cricket grounds in the area, and it can hold about 27,000 spectators. Test matches, ODIs, and T20 Internationals are just a few of the international cricket games that have taken place at the venue.
It is well known for its distinctive floodlights, which were put in place in 1996, making it the first cricket venue in the world to use them. With a total of 244 games played there, the stadium also holds the Guinness World Record for hosting the most ODIs.
Infamously referred to as the “Desert Storm,” Sachin Tendulkar’s back-to-back centuries against Australia in 1998 took place at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, as did Javed Miandad’s last-ball six off Chetan Sharma to secure Pakistan’s victory over India in 1986. The stadium is still a popular place to watch cricket matches today, hosting a number of high-profile events like IPL games and Asia Cup finals.
